The Four Loves: Sexual Love Pt. 2

The last time we talked about Eros being a “sexual love”. I left you with the question of is “sex” liberating in and of itself?

No. No, contrary to popular views and a several misguided notions it isn’t. Marriage involves the joining together of two souls. Sex is an expression of that union. It involves the spiritual clinging of two souls. Sound weird? Hang on, this is gonna get interesting real quick.

When a man and a woman are having sex in theory they are releasing their souls to be joined together through a physical act. It involves the opening of a door in the inner most part of human beings. This doesn’t mean that people that have sex with one another are in romantic love. But this does explain why many times people are unable to let go of past relationships where sex was routine.

Sex was meant by the manufacturer (God) to be a selfless expression of mutual love, respect and admiration for one’s mate. It was never meant to be an expression of one’s lustful appetites. And this is what Eros involves, lust. The lust of man’s fallen nature. A fallen nature that does not and cannot glorify God. Yet it does glorify someone … the Devil.

Now I know what you’re gonna say. But relax. I got proof.

In John 8:44, Jesus is schoolin’ the Pharisee’s about just who is and who isn’t a child of Faith (Abraham). In this verse he drops a bombshell on them.
“You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father.”

What he meant was is this; the devil did not go into labor and physically give birth to them. But spiritually their fallen nature is nurtured and has an origination, the devil. Just as God is the Father of all who are righteous, the Devil is the nurturer and the originator of the fallen nature of creation. Remember it was pride that cause him to desire to be worshipped as God. He was the first fallen being.

But what does this have to do with sex? Well the desires in our carnal, sinful nature are at odds with our regenerated nature. “For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.” Galatians 5:17.

When Jesus was asked what was the greatest commandment he said, 'YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’

Anywhere in there do you see the mention of one’s body? The word for love mentioned here is Agape. A love of choice that involves giving oneself over to the object of it. Not Eros. We are commanded as believers to present our bodies as tools or weapons for righteousness. Sex outside of the perimeters given by our Lord is one thing, sin. Sex as an appetite that needs to be fed thus violating any of God’s commands is sin. Consider …

Yet the body is not for immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body…Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take away the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? May it never be! Or do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body {with her?} For He says, "THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH, But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit {with Him.} Flee immorality. Every {other} sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.”
I Corinthians 6:13,15,16-20

Remember who Eros was right, the god of Erotic love. He had male and female prostitutes. This is how he was worshipped. Well one of the ways anyway. So if there is only one God and there are no gods. Then just whom were the Greeks and others worshipping when they participated in this worship? A demon. Or more direct, Satan.

We do have a fallen nature and it does not and will not glorify God. It has to be brought under subjection, crucified that is killed in order for the believer to be effective. We all desire to feel pleasure, but that is not what we are made for. We are made to honor and bring glory to God. We are recreated in His son’s image so that we may be found pleasing when He looks at us.

A husband is commanded to love his wife with the same type of love that Messiah has for the Church. The same for a wife. We are called to love in a relationship that transcends our bodies, not caters to it. When making love to his woman, a Husband is to be selfless seeking to please his wife. The same goes for a wife.

He is not to be in it to simply get “his” but rather to please and enjoy all that has been placed in his wife. Though it is a married couple’s duty to sexual meet the needs of each other, it is NOT to be done in a manipulative fashion. As in sexual stimulation being withheld because of arguments etc … This is a journey that is to be taken together. No one is born knowing what to do.

In fact many of us suffer from all of the crap that we got from either the streets or pornos. Many men suffer in this area because they expect their mate to become “Sergeant whore” like in the video. She has to have big plastic boobs and be a loud machine. You may laugh but its true.
Eros involves idolatry. It is the worship of someone on a level where you will give of your most precious natural gift. Your sexuality.

Paul advised that the only time the “luvin’” should cease is, a woman’s period or fasting and prayer.

How many marriages, how many men and woman need healing and proper understanding in this area? Babygirls, God made your humps. But they are for your husband. A man that will love, cherish, provide and protect her. A man that will forsake all others and put her first. A man that will give his life for her if necessary because that is what the Lord says his love should be. If you have been burned, start over. As one sister says in her description, “abstinence is not a crime”.

Next time we will explore God’s idea about sexuality. Bless you.
